The New B100-WH Methanol Recovery Condenser

*WARNING: Methanol is a toxic substance and must be handled accordingly.

The New B100-WH Methanol Recovery System allows for a greater volume distillation per batch than the old version . With the original pail still the max would be about 15Lt's of glycerine but now with the water heater still it easily accepts 32Lt's, or about the glycerine received from two batches of biodiesel production.

The changes that have been implemented are the increase in pipe size for the glycerine feed from 1/2" to 3/4" black iron pipe. The inlet is still reduced to 1/2" so the funnel can be screwed into it, but then the trest is in 3/4". This gives a much better flow and less back-flow which tends to cause small eruptions and send glycerine all over the place. If I were to redo this design I would incorporate a T where the copper tube comes up and attach a ball valve for the unique purpose of venting while filling the recovery unit.

The condensing unit is carried over from the older system as it worked fine to start with; the only change was the still pot itself. A ShurFlo pump provides the circulation of the water to cool the steam flow back into liquid form. Water is cycled through a 100Lt drum laid on it's side, with a bung opening on it's lid and side, so the same water is used over and over and over again, only needing the rare occasional topping off.
